Sports serve as a training ground for the youth to harness their abilities and learn the values of discipline and determination.
The annual Davao City Baseball Cup is the biggest baseball tournament in Davao City promoting unity and sports values among the athletes and the coaches and providing an exciting baseball experience for baseball enthusiasts in the city.
The Davao City Baseball Cup is organized primarily to help strengthen the relationship between Philippines and Japan, and to introduce baseball to all interested young people in Davao so that they will be able to experience the triumphs and failures in life through baseball and learn and adapt the value of discipline, sportsmanship, camaraderie and know by heart the importance of teamwork.
This year’s Davao City Baseball Cup was once again held at Lt. C. Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School grounds last February 9-10, 2019. The said baseball cup was participated by twenty-one (21) schools; ten (10) from the elementary division and eleven (11) from the high school division.
This year’s winners are the following:
Elementary Division:
Champion – Lt. Cipriano Villafuerte Elementary School
1 st Runner-up – Baguio Central Elementary School
2 nd Runner-up – Tawantawan Elementary School
3 rd Runner-up – Upian Elementary School
MVP – Kierbhe Kent Lawag
High School Division:
Champion – Baguio National School of Arts and Trades
1 st Runner-up – Crossing Bayabas National High School
2 nd Runner-up – Digos City National High School
3 rd Runner-up – A.O. Floirendo National High School
MVP – James Vincent Nisnisan
The Davao City Baseball Cup is an international activity of the Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club with the strong support and cooperation of Mr. Masatoshi Watanabe, and is organized by the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Family headed by Dr. Ines Mallari, the chairperson of this year’s Baseball Cup, Department of Education – Davao City Division, Datu Uchida Development Foundation and Davao City Baseball Association.
